This event, held on the historic and fabulous QE2, has been running for a couple of days, the highlight yesterday was ex Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney’s wife, Heather Mills, who is launching her own range of veggie friendly goodies. Heather is kind of going into competition with Paul’s deceased wife, Linda, who was also a staunch animal rights campaigner, and launched her own veggie option sausages.
Today was the turn of the cyber dudes, and Maxim Frolov gave an incredible insight into the dangers of the cyber hacker. I was aghast at the figures he gave for the daily attacks on our systems, and not always (though usually) for hard currency. Also in attendance were Anthony Habib and Nicolas Marullo from Cinco, who spoke on marketing and they way forward with Internet and games advertising. Quite an eye opener it was too.
The biggest surprise for me was the amount of money there is in gaming, and professional gamer, Angry Bird, gave an insight into what it’s like to be a sponsored player. What came as more of a shock was the amount of sponsorship that came from energy drink makers, which is also a little scary. I learnt that Fortnite has a huge number of players, and that the Insomniac Games Festival regularly has gamers playing up to 20 hours a day, some players going a full 24 hours without taking a nap. Surely there has to be some kind of danger there? I would love to be put right if anyone out there can enlighten me. Meanwhile, if you want to make money get into gaming: it’s not the future, it’s the NOW!
